Latest Releases: Everybody's Fine

By Andy Pountain

When i first watched the trailer for this film i thought it would be a typical winter comedy, upon watching the film this evening i was suprised as too how the trailer portrayed it as opposed to actually watching all of it. 'Everybody's Fine' is simply a heartwarming look at the reality of parenting, it may not apeal to younger viewers as it is a bit slow in places but as a whole it left me feeling greatful for what i have in life and also left me with many thoughts.

Robert Deniro is Frank Goode a widower who sets off on a journey to reunite with his four children after they all cancel on visiting him for a dinner. He is a very proud man and believes all is perfect with their lives. The journey however ultimately brings up the realization that actually maybe not everything is ok and perfect with the children a theme which is ultimately common in real life.

Everybody's Fine is really quite sad throughout, i really felt for Deniro's character the film really does display what happens in reality that parents maybe do expect too much of there kids. Deniro once again displays his versatility portraying a father figure who we can all relate to in normal life

The main theme of the movie is communication that in this day and age there is so many ways to communicate with people that we have become detached and separate from our families and close friends as opposed to actual face to face communication. It really does highlight how dependant we have become on technology and how we have to be greatful for our family and in the case of this movie our Dads.

Many of the acting performances are solid, Drew Barrymore especially is typecasted to this kind of film due to her personality and nature and does a good job in portraying Deniro's daughter and the typical father and daughter relationship. The scenes between the two brought a welcome lift at times and added an overall good balance to the film of comedy and drama.

As a whole this film will not be for everyone, especially people under the age of 22. It has a lot of slow parts but it isn't overly boring throughout, it will apeal to parents and people who just like a nice 'feel good' film. I for one watched this film for those reasons, i like a good heartwarming film that tugs on my heartstrings and also its a Deniro film why wouldn't i want to see it? Everbody's Fine is definitely a fine film i enjoyed and would see again.

IMDB Score: 7.5 My Score: 7.5
